A respectful addition and alteration to a turn-of-the-century villa on a narrow, hilly Wellington site. The contemporary style of the new structure, featuring three bedrooms and bathrooms, sits in contrast to the original villa and is linked with a transparent element that houses the kitchen and family room. The restored villa has been simplified to provide the main living areas, as well as a guest bedroom and ensuite.
“…. the impression is of three pavilions, all different but in harmony. Delicacy of detail and sympathetic colours emphasise the successful linking. This is a confident, ‘gutsy’ design that respects both the modern and Victorian building styles,” NZIA Awards Jury, 2000.
