Beauchamp Drive Apartments

Work in progress. Massey, Auckland

Back to projects

A social housing development for Kāinga Ora on a large sloping site in Massey, close to public amenities and transport routes. All units are northeast facing with views from the bedrooms and balconies towards the neighbouring Royal Reserve.

29 three-storey walk-up apartments provide 24 two-bedroom and five one-bedroom apartments plus 30 car parks.

There are also eleven two-storey houses – five duplexes and a single house.

The buildings are split into two blocks, which allows a landscaped staircase to welcome the building occupants from the pathway that runs through the reserve. All residents have use of a community room and additional clothes drying room.

The apartment building is constructed using precast concrete and steel structure. The volumes are broken into two separate forms to provide scale from the park. A variable façade treatment includes white box frames of different sizes on the apartment balconies. Vertical screens and the precast concrete panels provide an integrated play of horizontal and vertical patterns.

This significant development is not overbearing within its residential neighbourhood.
