Oamaru Farmhouse II

Residential Process

Renovations to an early 20th-century farmhouse provided a chance to honour the integrity of the home's original design while revisiting alterations carried out in the 1980s.

External alterations reordered the southern windows, with three large double-hung windows befitting of this early 1900s home. New timber sliding doors and windows connect to a sheltered courtyard, framed in glass to counter the easterly breezes.

Inside, a new living space connects to the new kitchen and reconfigured scullery, while linking to a reading room, once the office, and a snug behind the existing fireplace. These changes have created flexible family spaces that are comfortable for just a couple or for when extended family and visitors descend.
