Residential Process

Additions and alterations to this Breaker Bay bungalow on Wellington's rugged and exposed South Coast.

The home has been extended and opened up on the seaward-side as much as possible with an 'internal balcony', large sliding windows, added to the front.  Known in the HMOA studio as 'the Wellington verandah', this approach allows the home to be completely opened up on sunny, still days and safely enclosed again in the notorious Wellington southerlies.

Views to the Remutaka Ranges and Pencarrow Head are maximised, and privacy from the street is retained.

An office/studio has been added in the mezzanine and other spaces refurbished for family living.

Photos featuring owner, designer Jason O'Hara and his dog Mac, are by Rosa Woods courtesy of Stuff. Read more in a Sunday Magazine feature on Jason and his family at home.
