Residential Process

Contemporary additions to a two-storey bungalow have transformed how an Auckland family lives.

Taking care to retain the character aspects of the original house, we have breathed life into the old by opening up the existing spaces to the light and adding a new, spacious kitchen and living area to the rear of this family home.

With views to the Sky Tower, the new section of the house leads onto a covered outdoor living area, swimming pool and pool house.

Circulation areas in the original home have been improved and light now floods in through new rosewood-framed windows and a striking, elongated entranceway. The previously dark central stair has been retained, with daylight radiating from above. Tasmanian oak flooring throughout further brightens and modernises the old house and links it to the new addition.

Two new bedrooms bring the total to five, alongside four and a half new bathrooms.

The double garage and extensive landscaping complete the clients' brief.

The use of dark-stained and natural cedar inside and out contrasts with the original exterior, now painted white.
